Nestled in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, with uninterrupted views of South Wales' highest peaks, Pen y Fan and Corn Du - Bwthyn y Bannau, Welsh for "Little Cottage of the Beacons", is the perfect place to get away from it all.
We are located 3.5 miles from Brecon town centre on Mynydd Illtyd common, where we enjoy incredible hikes directly from the doorstep.
For nature lovers - There is the opportunity to enjoy the local wildlife including Curlews, Red Kites, Buzzards and Owls along with locally grazed sheep, cattle, ponies and alpacas.
For history lovers - There are numerous SSSI’s (Site of Special Scientific Interest) including an iron age hill fort and a roman road (Sarn Helen).
For star gazers - The Bannau Brycheiniog is an International Dark Sky Reserve with phenomenal star gazing, we also get to see stunning displays of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).
The Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre is scenic 20 minute walk away, where there is a café, local information and regular events held.
Additionally, we are just a short drive to the stunning Waterfall Country, and if you fancy a change of scenery, within an hour you can be in Cardiff City Centre or at a beach!
For Bikers (with and without engines/motors): You are spoiled for choice with wonderful routes heading in every direction! As bikers ourselves, we like to know our bikes are safe when we travel so there is covered lean to, behind a locked gate for safely parking bikes.
Bwthyn y Bannau is equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay in comfort, and the woodfired hot tub in the covered pergola is perfect for a soak after a day of exploring.
